# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It fills your kitchen with an aroma so inviting that guests arrive before the punch is even ready, drawn in by the promise of spiced comfort
  • You can make it ahead and keep it warm, giving you one less thing to stress about while hosting
  • It's naturally vegan and gluten-free, which means everyone at your gathering can enjoy it without hesitation or substitutions
  • The spices are forgiving—you can adjust them based on what you have and what you love, making it impossible to truly mess up
02 -
  • Don't let the punch boil hard—a gentle simmer is all you need. Boiling can make it taste bitter and break down some of the delicate flavors you're trying to build
  • If you're making this ahead, leave out the garnishes until just before serving. They'll keep their color and texture much better that way
  • The spices will continue to infuse even after you remove it from heat, so if you're making it in the morning to serve at night, strain out the solids after about 30 minutes or it might become too strong
03 -
  • Buy whole spices from stores with good turnover—they'll taste fresher and more vibrant than spices that have been sitting on shelves for years
  • If you want to make this ahead, prepare everything except the liquids, then combine and heat just before your guests arrive—the punch tastes brightest when the citrus oils are fresh
  • A little splash of fresh lemon juice right at the end can brighten everything if you feel it's tasting slightly flat
